at home with Elissa&Jay
Hey there! It’s been a couple weeks. I had a final project due in a class I’m taking, so I got a little distracted. But I’ve got a great home tour for you today, so I promise it was worth the wait!
I got to visit Elissa a few weeks ago in the home she’s made with her husband Jay and their pup Wendel (his full name is Wendel Bark, how good, right? He’s even got his own insta account.) They moved to the Crown Point neighbourhood about a year and a half ago. They had some pretty specific requirements for their perfect home, Elissa works full time as an artist and needed a house with a studio and a space she could display her work and host clients. And her husband Jay is an avid cyclist, so he needed a place that he could work on his bikes that had direct access to the backyard so he didn’t have to lug his bikes through the house constantly. It took a bit of searching, but I think they definitely got what they needed and more in this gem. It had all the practical things they wanted, plus some great characteristics that Elissa ran with and made her own with her bright, California mid-century vibe. It’s welcoming, bright and airy.
This place is a serious vintage dream. Elissa has done such an amazing job of collecting and curating this amazing mix of her own art, vintage furniture and new. And those rugs!! I have serious rug envy, and all of them are antique/vintage. I mean, come on. It’s not fair for one person to get all the good stuff, am I right?
Like so many older Hamilton homes, the living room and dining room are one large space divided by an arch way.
And speaking of how gorgeous her home is, check out the babe herself! Maker of all the beautiful things. (All the floral artwork your seeing around the house is done by Elissa.)
As much as I love this living/dining room area, I have to say one of my favourite corners is this little dining nook they made in the kitchen. Like most of us, they don’t use the formal dining room for meals all that much, so they added this little table in the sunny kitchen corner for those quick meals and coffees. And it’s right beside the patio door that heads into the backyard, so I can just imagine it’s such a nice spot to sit in the summer with the door open and a little breeze coming through.
And of course a close up on that light fixture. I don’t think I need to explain why.
A simple and peaceful bedroom, the perfect place to take a break at the end of the day. With yet another rug with an amazing print and colour. (and a cute little pup)
Every little corner is full of interest. It was so fun to wander around this place. Thanks again for letting me come by!
And of course, Wendel Bark’s insta HERE
So many cool people/groups in Hamilton! Get out there guys, there’s something for everyone!
